The Holy Spirit lives in us to empower, teach, equip, help, purify, comfort and encourage us, and remind us of the hope we have in Jesus. Romans 8:26 | Romans 15:13 | Romans 5:3-5 | 1 Corinthians 6:11 The presence of the Holy Spirit is a guarantee that there is more than what we can see in this world: that just as Jesus was raised from the dead, we will be too. 2 Corinthians 5:3-5 | Ephesians 1:13-14 The Holy Spirit gives us a foretaste of the wonder Jesus’ followers are destined for. Romans 8:23

When the Holy Spirit is at work in us, we display some of the character of God. Some of these ‘fruits’ are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5:22-23 When give the Spirit free reign in our lives, he does good things!

Jesus told us that through the power of the Holy Spirit we can do what he did: heal the sick, raise the dead, evict demons and do great miracles. John 14:12-17 | Matthew 10:8 We’re also told that the Spirit gives us gifts to help us live God’s way, like the ability to know things we couldn’t naturally (called word of knowledge), to see God’s purposes and what he is about to do (prophecy), a special and personal prayer language (tongues), wisdom, healing and miracles.

If you would like to see the Holy Spirit at work in your life, you can ask him to fill you with his power. This is often called being ‘baptised in the Holy Spirit’. People experience it in different ways, sometimes with a physical sensation or an emotional feeling. Ask him to reveal himself to you in his special way for you.

You can also ask him to make you aware of the gift he has for you, and how to use it. God is a good Father who loves to give us good gifts. Matthew 7:7-11 | Luke 12:32

Go ahead, ask!
