We can be tempted to give up on participating in a church when we get hurt or offended by other people. The problem is that people are still people and until Jesus removes evil from this world, we can and do still sin – so people still hurt each other. But God, in his wisdom far beyond ours, has told us to stick with it, because community is the context for our growth. Hebrews 10:25
Living in spiritual isolation makes us vulnerable, like a sheep wandering away from the flock. When we aren’t surrounded by a loving network of people who are moving towards Jesus together, it’s easy for us to wander off track, get lost, lose momentum or become prey for the enemy. When we stick together we’re safer, stronger and we can go further.
If you would like to join a church family, you can find a church here.
Every member of a church is essential because everybody has a part to play through the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Like parts of a body, we fit together and work as a team. Ephesians 4:5-16 An ear by itself is useless, but connected to a body it has an important role and shares in the life of the body. 1 Corinthians 12:4-31
Local churches fit into the wider Church that stretches across space and time. Just like individuals make up the body of a local church, local churches make up the family of the Church as a whole.
Jesus made it clear that the Church is his
pride and joy, his treasure that he bought with
a high price. Acts 20:28 In fact, the Church is even called his bride, showing us the depth of
feeling, commitment and union he has with the collection of his followers as a whole. Revelation 19:7-8 God wants us to also be committed to his Church – it’s part of being committed to Jesus and his ultimate victory. Matthew 16:18
